Authorities strengthen container surveillance at Colón port
Nine scanners were installed at the Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) to strengthen surveillance in the port area and detect contraband in containers that go in and out of that site.
The initiative was pioneered by the National Customs Authority in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, according to reports.
Gloria Moreno de López, Director of Customs, confirmed that a total of 45 people have been hired to operate said equipment.
The training on the use of the machinery will last one week and will feature experts from Canada and Germany, said the official.
