Former president under investigation

  Prosecutors have opened an investigation into alleged money laundering by former President Ernesto Pérez Balladares through a shell company. Prosecutors are looking into whether the activities of shell company Shelf Holding Inc., which received a stream of money from the company Lucky Games, were illegal. The investigation, which began on Sept. 14, is headed by José Ayu Prado, head of the Special Prosecutor's Office of Organized Crime. Officials investigate alleged human trafficking and falsified work permits
