New twist in Vallarino case

Supreme Court Judge Adán Arnulfo Arjona has ordered Public Registry Director Sharon de Dumanoir to submit a report of conduct for her handling of records involving the investigation into the citizenship of Bosco Vallarino.

The decision was made based on an application filed by Vallarino, who was elected mayor of Panama City in the May election. A decision has not yet been reached, however, on of he will be allowed to take office because of his dual citizenship with Panama and the United States.

Herbert Young, a lawyer for Vallarino, said last night that the judge's decision suspends the process that was being carried forward in the Public Registry. However, a source within the Tribunal Electoral said that the decision does not freeze the case, but will prevent a decision from being rendered until it is resolved.

Vallarino was slated to take office July 1, but that seems increasingly unlikely because the Tribunal Electoral has not issued him the credentials to hold office.
