There are 1,706 Panamanians living abroad who are eligible to vote in the upcoming national elections in May 3, according to Sharon Sinclaire de Dumanoir, who is overseeing foreign voting for the Tribunal Electoral. This number is substantially lower than the 20,000 voters living abroad that the Tribunal had estimated would register.
Voting abroad begins on March 3 and ends on May 3. In early March, ballot papers are signed and sent abroad, with the voter filling them out and returning them by the deadline to be counted.
On Jan. 21, the postal service will find out the results of a test run that it conducted for foreign voters. The office sent out sample ballots to 47 countries where Panamanians were registered last year to see how long it took for them to arrive and be returned.
