Torrijos sees approval rating fall
Rain isn't the only thing that is falling in Panama lately.
President Martín Torrijos' approval ratings have also been dropping, as more than half the country thinks his job performance is “bad” or “very bad.”
According to a survey conducted by the firm Unimed for La Prensa earlier this month, 46 percent of those asked said Torrijos was doing a good job, while the remainder had a negative view of his job performance.
The survey was conducted between Nov. 14 and 19, and 1,210 people took part.
One positive note for Torrijos is that his approval rating is much higher than that of his government.
In the survey, 67 percent of those asked said the government is doing a bad job, while 23 percent said it was doing a good job.
The survey took place about a month after former Minister of Government and Justice Daniel Delgado Diamante was accused of murdering a fellow National Guard member in 1970. Diamante was the main proponent behind the government's proposed security changes, which prompted a large amount of criticism from several civic organizations.
