Cold front brings stormy weather, flooding

In the provinces of Bocas del Toro and Colón, heavy rains and strong winds have put civil defense authorities on high alert.

In Bocas del Toro, officials said the levels of the Sixaola and Changuinola rivers remain high, and are in danger of flooding.

Meanwhile, in Colón, flooding was reported in the center of the city and in shorefront communities. Several roads were reported to be impassable due to the weather. Numerous homes were also reportedly damaged due to the flooding.

The mayor of the district of Santa Isabel, Yira Molinar, said the communities of Viento Frío and Nombre de Dios were cut off due to the roads there being impassable.

Officials in Bocas del Toro had to relocate 59 people living in Las Tablas and nearby communities.

Water service was cut off in some areas as officials shut down plants because of flooding fears.

The area is being impacted by a cold front, which is bringing the stormy weather. Meteorologists said that such weather patterns are not uncommon at this time of year.
