Milk producers in the country’s central provinces are up in arms over the possible importation of powdered milk, which they contend poses a threat to domestic milk production.
José Delgado, president of the Association of Milk Producers of the Central Provinces, said that producers are aware that the government intends to authorize the shipment of powdered milk this month, without consulting the dairy industry.
This month is traditionally the most lucrative season for milk producers, since they earn higher return for their production, a situation that could be affected by the imported milk, making manufacturers less likely to buy domestic milk, according to dairy farmers.
