Sources: lawyer mum about shooting

Attorney Jorge Garrido Monfante has declined to supply authorities with information about the attempt on his life last Saturday that took place while he was leaving a nightclub on Calle Uruguay, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

Garrido was shot in the mouth, and the bullet broke two of his teeth. He remains hospitalized in stable condition. Sources explained that, on two occasions, Garrido has refused to testify.

His relatives have apparently told police that, for the moment, they have no intention to formalize a complaint about the attack. Regardless, police have started an investigation into the shooting, but have not identified any suspects.

One witness stated that the lawyer was intercepted by a gunman as he was leaving the nightclub.

After firing the gun, the assailant walked a short distance away, before getting into a waiting vehicle and leaving the scene.

Police have not been able to determine a motive for the shooting.
