Colombian authorities reported yesterday of a possible drug trafficking link to the investment firm DMG, owned by 28-year-old David Guzmán Murcia.

For the last two years, Murcia Guzmán has rented a luxurious apartment in the exclusive Tower 2 of Plaza Miramar.

In Bogotá, president Álvaro Uribe told a group of lawmakers that evidence against DMG and other pyramid schemes allegedly linked to drug trafficking were to be brought before judges. Venezuela's government also took action against the investment company, closing its local branch. Meanwhile, in Panama, the Superintendency of Banks yesterday warned of "the high risk" posed to the public in participating in trade relations that offer promises of high returns.

The warning comes after Colombian investors who had been offered interest rates between 100 percent and 150 percent by DMG companies. Nevertheless, Attorney General Ana Matilde Gómez said that the Colombian government has yet to give the order to arrest Murcia Guzmán.
