A total of 58 bands and floats will participate in this year’s ninth annual “Christmas in Panama” parade scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 14.
Some 24 sponsor companies were present yesterday as the participants were awarded their position in the parade by raffle. Though most of the bands are Panamanian, several groups will be visiting from Costa Rica and Honduras.
According to tradition, the parade will depart from Parque Urracá on Avenida Balboa, winding through the downtown area to finish up at the intersection of Vía Cincuentenario and Vía Porras.
Iván Arrocha, first deputy mayor, reported that some 14,000 children representing the country’s nine provinces will take part in the festivities. This move will cost the township some 30 thousand dollars, the official explained.
The parade was started during Mayín Correa’s term as mayor of Panama City.
