Ruíz leads philadelphia Phillies to victory
If the Philadelphia Phillies win the World Series, the hero may well be their catcher, Carlos Ruíz, who originally hails from Chiriquí.
Ruíz, whose nickname is “Calicho,” had the game-winning RBI in Philadelpia's exciting 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays Saturday night. With the game tied 4-4 and the bases loaded with nobody out, Ruíz hit a slow roller up the third base line, scoring the decisive run.
It was Ruíz's second RBI of the game, as he had hit a home run earlier in the contest to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead.
The single helped “Calicho” erase an earlier mistake which helped the Rays tie the game. In the eighth inning, Ruíz made an errant throw to third base to try and catch a basestealer. The error allowed the runner to score, tying the game.
Philadelphia nw has a 2-1 lead in the best of seven series. Game four was scheduled for last night.
