Road project starts to have problems

bad shape: Quito residents in Los Santos say that a new road project is already showing signs of deteriorating.1109523

Residents of the community of Quito, in the province of Los Santos, are complaining that a recently-completed road improvement project is already showing signs of wear and tear.

The road, which connects Quito with the community of La Mesa, was finished a few months ago. The project cost a little more than $100,000.

But residents say that the government received little value for the money it spent. Stretches of the road have started to deteriorate, especially around drainage areas. Landslides have clogged gutters, meaning that the road has become flooded.

Ramón Rodríguez, a representative of the district of La Mesa, said he is asking the government to assess the project, because these problems shouldn't be appearing so soon after the work was finished.

Officials from the government's Community Development Program, which paid for the work, said they will look into the problems.
