BRIEFS: Crime
Another escaped la joyita convict captured
Police recaptured another of the six fugitives yesterday who had been on the lam since escaping from La Joyita prison last week, setting off a manhunt in the area around Pedregal.
Two other prisoners were nabbed Monday after police were tipped off about their whereabouts in the grasslands near the neighborhood of La Rana de Oro, in Pedregal.
The three escapees in custody are Edwin González Díaz, who is serving a sentence for robbery, and Joel López-Salcedo and Mariano Guzman Chavarria, who were both convicted of murder.
Fellow prisoners Azael Ramos De Gracia, 25, Frank Hynes Hall, 27, and Jonathan Oda Trujillo, 23, are still on the loose.
Investigations into the escape found that the six inmates broke down the back door of Pavilion 13 of La Joyita on the evening of Oct. 14, according to sources at the National Penitentiary System.
Apparently, the inmates left their cells unnoticed before leaving through the back door of the facility. They then scaled the fence around the perimeter.
