A court returned the seven volumes containing the summary of the SAN-100 investigation report yesterday to public prosecutors, who have been ordered to continue pursuing new information on the May 29 crash that left 11 people dead.
The resolution, signed by Judge Luis Mario Carrasco, stipulated that should evidence emerge from the summary pointing to a government official, that information must be presented to Attorney General Ana Matilde Gómez.
Prosecutor Dimas Guevara, who replaced Maruquel Castroverde as lead investigator into the accident, said he intended to immediately re-launch the legal proceedings in the case that have been pending since Castroverde renounced the position on Sept. 2. Castroverde had expressed concern that a conflict of interest might arise should certain government officials be fingered in the investigations.
The prosecutor confirmed that he will make sure that the summary includes all the required documentation pertaining to the parties involved in the case.
Guevara added to that his office is still awaiting accident reports from Pratt & Whitney, the Canadian company that manufactured the helicopter’s two engines.
Following the transfer of the summary yesterday, Guevara met with a group of senior prosecutors to discuss what strategy would be followed in the ongoing investigation.
