Group eyes dates for possible strike
The Frente Nacional para la Defensa de los Derechos Sociales (Frenadeso) met yesterday to discuss dates for a possible 48-hour strike the group is planning for the near future.
The group also discussed the status of draft proposals that it submitted to legislators in the Asamblea Nacional earlier this month.
The group has threatened to call the strike if its proposals are not acted upon by legislators. It is seeking higher wages for many lower-income workers as well as relief from rising food prices.
According to Andrés Rodríguez, a member of Frenadeso, the likely dates of the strike are Oct. 22-23 or Oct. 28-29.
The group has been heavily critical of the government’s inability to stem rising food prices, which labor leaders have said is causing many of the country’s poorer residents to go hungry.
