Colón cruise port project to open in november
Construction of the marine part of the Home Port in Colón is 75 percent complete, while the structures belonging to the land part reached 60 percent, according to Augusto Terracina, manager of Columbus 2000, the contractor developing the project.
The works are expected to be finished by the end of November, in time for the arrival of the “Enchantment of the Seas,” a Royal Caribbean International cruise ship, on December 7.
Dredging along the coast in preparation for the construction of a pier should wrap up by the end of the month, and the project’s land phase, including the welcoming center, luggage, cargo and commercial depots, are just about halfway finished.
The final project has been reassessed at $15 million, some $5 million more than had been originally projected.
