Police confiscate heroin, cocaine in raids
Narcotics authorities accompanied by drug-sniffing dogs captured some 13 kilos of cocaine and seven kilos of heroin yesterday in the Comarca Kuna Yala.
The drugs, destined for Florida, were detected in the hollow of a container located in the headquarters of the Interoceanic Warehousing Company.
This quantity of heroin could fetch and estimated $1 million on the black market.
In a separate raid yesterday, police arrested five people and seized 26 bags of suspected drugs in the area of Playa Chiquita in La Chorrera.
An anonymous phone call tipped off the Policía Nacional that two cars would be passing through the area to engage in an alleged drug deal. When the police approached the designated spot, a firefight broke out.
Police officers managed to capture five of the suspects, but other members of the group escaped into a nearby thicket.
They were later reported to have been seen in the area of Arenal Step in the La Mitra neighborhood of La Chorrera.
