Opposition wants reforms changed
Members of the opposition presented a bill before the Asamblea Nacional yesterday seeking to repeal the decrees issued by the Executive that made changes to the country's security agencies.
The controversial changes have prompted criticism from numerous groups, who have called them unconstitutional and reminiscent of policies that were in place during the military dictatorship.
Wigberto Quintero, a legislator in the Cambio Democrático party, presented the bill to the Comisión de Gobierno of the Asamblea Nacional.
Yesterday, during the installation of this committee, opposition Legislator Jose I. Blandon urged his peers to undertake, as soon as possible, a revision of the decrees.
The law created the Servicio Aeronaval and the Servicio de Fronteras, restructured the Servicio de Protección Institucional, reformed the Policía Nacional and the Consejo de Seguridad, and established the Servicio Nacional de Inteligencia.
