Presidential candidate for the Partido Revolucionario Democrático (PRD), Balbina Herrera, met with the public notary yesterday to release information regarding her personal assets, totaling $ 2 million .
The notarized affidavit lists the following items: income for the last four years, during which time she served as ministra de Vivienda, of $345,000; shares of three Panamanian corporations valued at $1.3 million; four vehicles with a total value of $59,000; and real estate property located in district of Ancón assessed at $250,000.
Herrera also declared two bank accounts with five risibly low balances, although she did not disclosed the exact amount held in each.
The affidavit was authorized by Benigno Vergara Cárdenas, who is also president of the committee in charge of investigating challenges to the results of the recent PRD primary elections.
Despite Herrera’s best efforts to highlight that she is the only presidential candidate that has disclosed such personal financial information, the document shows some discrepancies when compared to her previous declarations. For instance, Herrera claimed that she was not a member and has never been financially involved with any corporations.
