Susepcted farc members cross border
Residents of Bajo Chiquito, in the Darién, reported that six people believed to be members of the Colombian organization FARC came to their community Saturday to buy provisions.
The residents said that the men were dressed in civilian clothes, but were recognized as members of the guerilla organization. The meeting was not violent, as the men purchased food and other supplies and then left, but residents evacuated the village fearing that they would come back that night.
On Aug. 1., several suspected FARC members ransacked a store in the community. Residents said that added police protection for the village was promised after that incident, but it never materialized.
A police spokesman said that no formal complaint has been made to the agency, but that the matter would be investigated.
