The director of the Autoridad de Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre (ATTT), Heraclio Batista, said yesterday that the agency has cancelled the licenses of 52 bus operators since the passage of a 2007 law that included stricter regulations for the industry.
In addition to those who have had their licenses suspended, the agency had also ordered the temporary suspension of two other operating permits for lesser offenses, Batista said.
Among these is the one issued to bus 8B-21 11, which was involved in an accident last Sunday which injured two people. They were injured when the bus's emergency door opened unexpectedly.
The ATTT also has numerous pending complaints in its Oficina de Protección al Usuario, which was also created by the 2007 law. That agency allows riders to file grievances against bus operators and taxi drivers for a variety of offenses.
