Experts from the Instituto de Medicina Legal (Imel) have determined that the death of Luz Nereida Moreno, wife of boxer Alfonso “Huracán” Mosquera, was caused by a series of blows inflicted to her stomach.

The autopsy revealed that Moreno, 31, died Monday from a generalized infection that was caused by several severe blow she received to the stomach two months ago, which caused her to be hospitalized.

Doctors operated on her, but were unable to repair the damage caused by the beating.

The autopsy was conducted by forensic expert Edgardo Lasso and supervised by the medical director of Imel, José Vicente Pachar.

There has not yet been any arrest warrant issued for Mosquera. Yesterday, his lawyer, Víctor Córdoba, himself a former boxer, said that his client is in hiding because of fears that his wife's family might attack him. Family members claim that Moreno had previously been a victim of domestic abuse.

Cordova said that his client would surrender if criminally charged.
