Police seize 834 kilos of cocaine

Authorities seized 834 kilos of cocaine yesterday that were hidden in a vacant house in Aguadulce, in the province of Coclé.

According to drug prosecutor Edwin Guardia, the seizure was part of an operation known as Ubi-KT, but so far no arrests have been made.

The drugs were stored in 28 gym bags deposited inside an abandoned house located near the municipal dump. To throw canine units off the scent, the packages of cocaine were wrapped in surgical gloves that had been smeared with auto grease. Written on the packages were the words Tekit and X MEN.

The seizure was made after police received several calls from the community about suspicious activity taking place at the abandoned house.

Police found clothing and food inside the house, and think the spot was vacated shortly before police moved in to search the property.

So far this year, authorities have seized 26.86 tons of drugs in the country. Some 20 tons of drugs were seized last year.
