Former legislator plans appeal
Former legislator Haydée Milanés de Lay has filed an appeal with the Tribunal Electoral (TE) over a decision by the agency that made her ineligible for the upcoming election.
The decision by the TE stems from the fact that de Lay was born in Colombia, and does not meet the requirements to hold office in the Asamblea Nacional.
The member of the Partido Panameñista served in the Asamblea for 10 years, from 1994 to 2004, but withdrew from the last election because of an investigation into allegations of campaign fraud.
Former Partido Panameñista Vice President Alcibiades Vásquez said the TE's decision was politically motivated.
