More dengue detected
Six new cases of dengue fever were confirmed this week in the district of Colón.
Marcelino Caballero, regional director for the Ministerio de Salud (Minsa), said that the total number of diagnosed cases of dengue on the Atlantic coast has risen to 19 this year. No cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever, a more severe form of the illness, have been reported, said the health official.
“We’re going to resume a campaign of fumigating and eliminating [mosquito] breeding grounds on Friday and Saturday in the city of Colón and the Arco Iris area, especially in areas where the cases were reported,” said Caballero.
Caballero explained that efforts to eliminate potential breeding grounds should be redoubled during the rainy season, and recommended reporting cases of dengue fever immediately.
