Pollera parade delayed
The Instituto Panameño de Turismo (Ipat) announced the cancellation of the One Thousand Polleras parade.
According to Ipat, the expense of the celebration "would be in vain, knowing beforehand that the parade could be cancelled because of bad weather."
Ipat also said closing one of the city's main avenues to install platforms and food and bevarage stalls would be unnecessary inconveniences in the event of rain. The solution, it says, is to change the parade date. "We´re already taking appropriate measures to have the parade in summer next year." That way, Ipat assumes, the parade won't be impeded by rain.
The pollera, a large, elaborately embroidered full skirt, is considered the national costume of Panama, although it is worn for festivals in other parts of Latin America, too.
