Ngöbe Buglé leaders agreed on behalf of their people, the largest indigenous group in the country, to join the Asociación de Productores Panameños de Energía Renovable (Apper), the trade association reported yesterday. The general leader of the Ngöbe Buglé, Máximo Saldana, and regional leaders Johnny Bonilla (Ñokribo), José Félix Rodriguez (Kodriri) and Rogelio Moreno (Nedrini) were present for the official act of joining Apper.
"They want to develop partnerships that will enable them to use the region's water resources to generate power and produce biofuels," Apper reported afterward in a press release. Saldaña said that the Ngöbe Bugle are not against development, that they are sympathetic to the idea of renewable energy and that they are willing to support the development of mini-hydroelectric facilities in their district.
