Immigration office resumes normal work hours
The country´s main immigration office has decided to return to its original hours of business after customers and lawyers complained about the new hours imposed last week in order to save energy.
As of this Monday, the Dirección de Migración on Avenida Cuba will be open between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., said director de Migración Tayr Barsallo.
"Not even the normal schedule is enough to handle the demand we have," said Barsallo.
Last Monday the Ejecutivo, or executive branch of the government, ordered all public offices to close by 1:30 p.m. to help deal with the energy crisis caused by a lack of water at the country's main hydroelectric plant. Recent rains and lower energy use over the weekend, however, have dispelled fears that the government will resort to energy rationing.
The Dirección de Migración processes visas and work and tourist permits.
