Ngöbe Buglé threaten to suspend classes
The lack of teachers in various educational centers in areas within the Ngöbe Buglé region has made the parents association there uneasy. The group is considering a suspension of classes as a means of drawing attention to the situation
César Salazar, president of the parents group, said that they will meet with the provincial director of education in Bocas del Toro, Dinora de Miranda, to discuss the problem. The meeting will take place in the district of Nutivi.
Salazar added that it has been two months since he petitioned the Ministerio de Educación to appoint teachers to schools in parts of the region that are difficult to get to, since some children are not receiving any classes.
Ministerio de Educación officials now appear ready to take action to avoid further problems. A suspension of classes in the region would affect 6,000 students at different schools in the communities of Kankintú, Bisira, Kusapín and Santa Catalina, among others.
The Ngöbe Buglé make up the largest indigenous population of Panama.
