Drivers call for police cheif’s ouster
Luis Rodríguez, president of the Cámara Nacional de Transporte Público (Canatra), called for the resignation of Policía Nacional Director Rolando Mirones because of his failure to address the rise in violent crime.
Rodríguez made that statement yesterday during a meeting with the ministro de Gobierno, Daniel Delgado Diamante, about the murder of a bus driver, Erick Earl Prescott, last week.
Delgado said that the decision to fire Mirones would have to be made President Martín Torrijos.
Bus drivers have been one of the prime targets of robbers looking for easy prey. Robberies have become increasingly common, especially on late-night routes.
Rodríguez has called for a greater police presence on buses and more security cameras at bus stops.
