New road already needs major repairs
A road in the province of Herrera that cost $3.8 million and took four years to build is generating complaints that it is dangerous to use.
The road, which runs between Los Pozos and El Salitre, is mostly used by farmers to transport produce as well as by others living in the area.
It was finished last November, but people living near it said that it is already showing extreme signs of wear and tear.
Reinaldo Márquez, who lives on the road, said landslides following heavy rains have damaged it, and that it has become so narrow in places that only one vehicle can use it at a time.
"This is a route fit for men on horseback," he said.
The road, which is 15.5 miles long, was built by the construction company Concord S.A. Officials in the Ministerio de Obras Públicas said that they will be instructing the company to fix the areas that have been eroded.
