The skyscraper The Point, which is being built by developer Desarrollos Bahía in Punta Paitilla, is now the tallest building in any Spanish speaking country.
The building, which is still under construction, has reached a height of 255 meters. It is now taller than Torre Mayor in Mexico City, which is 230 meters high, and Central Park in Caracas, Venezuela, which is 225 meters high.
It is also taller than the 250-meter high Torre Caja Madrid, located in the capital of Spain. That building was previously the tallest building in any Spanish-speaking country.
According to sources close to the project, the building, which was designed by architects Mallol & Mallol and George Moreno, will eventually be 275 meters high. It is scheduled for completion in January 2009.
But the building is not expected to hold its title for long.
There are at least three projects planned for Panama City that will be higher than The Point. Those are Los Faros de Panama, Torre Vitri and Trump Ocean Club.
