Chiriquí firemen call off strike

Chiriquí firemen met with Minister of Gobierno y Justicia Daniel Delgado Diamante yesterday and agreed to suspend the strike they had planned to call over their salaries.

The firemen had requested that their salaries be equal to those of their colleagues in Panama and Colón.

Sources from the Ministerio said the Chiriquí firemen suspended their strike on learning that a law the Ejecutivo is planning to bring before the Asamblea Nacional includes a pay increase for the firefighters.

Javier Justavino, from the Chiriquí Guardia Permanente, said that the strike would have involved 65 firefighters from the districts of Gualaca, Dolega, Puerto Armuelles, San Félix, David and Boquete.
