Sources at the Dirección de Investigación Judicial (DIJ) have said that they believe the murder of Panamanian singer Alonso Blackwood Drakes, better known as Danger Man, was the result of a business deal gone bad.
DIJ has not made any arrests, but thinks that two Curundú men may have been paid to carry out the assasination.
Drakes was shot four times as he was leaving his cousin's house in La Riviera de Don Bosco.
Two men were seen fleeing the scene in a gray sedan.
A rental car matching that description was later found on Avenida Central with a door open and the keys in the ignition. The woman who rented the car told police it was stolen when she left it for a few minutes outside a friend's house.
The car has been taken into custody and police are combing it for evidence. They are trying to link the car to the two suspects.
Investigators suspect the assassins were paid several thousand dollars for the murder. Investigators said they believe the men hosted a large party shortly after the murder, and were seen handing out money to relatives. So far, police have not disclosed the person who paid the men to carry out the attack.
Prosecutor Ramsés Barrera said the investigation is in its initial stages, and investigators have just finished taking statements from the singer's relatives and friends.
In his last song, Drakes said: "If I come to die, I want you to carry the flag until the end." Some people close to the singer have speculated that this was a sign that he knew he was in danger.
His manager, Manuel de Jesús Caballero Castillo, said Drakes will be buried next Thursday.
