Taxis to go yellow... next year
The subdirector of the Autoridad del Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre (ATTT), Armando Fuentes, admitted during a meeting yesterday that forcing all taxis to be painted yellow "has turned out to be a little difficult for taxi drivers."
The drivers have complained about the cost of the paint and worry about "other expensive formalities." He said taxi drivers will have another year to comply with the law, which is the third time the deadline has been extended.
"We hope that if we give another extension, they will not get used to it and ask for another one next year," Fuentes said.
The resolution that requires all taxis to be painted yellow was passed in 2007, Fuentes said.
Meanwhile, members of the taxi drivers’ guild are considering asking for a 10 to 25 cent fare increase when they meet with the ATTT on Feb.28.
