London & Regional, the company developing the former Howard Air Force base site, said it is in advanced negotiations with several companies looking at setting up offices at the former military installation.
Henry Kardonsky, general manager of L & R Panama, said that one company is close to completing a deal to set up a call center at the former base.
"We are finalizing the details of the contract," Kardonsky said.
The manager said the company has received substantial interest from overseas companies interested in establishing offices at Howard.
"There is a marked interest from many quarters to be part of this concept," he said.
The project is in its first phase, which involves building roads and making other infrastructural improvements.
The next phase, which will cost an estimated $400 million, will begin by developing a residential area as well as continuing to expand the businesses located at the site.
