Some politicians will be mixing business with pleasure as they plan on heading to various Carnaval events throughout the country.
Ricardo Martinelli, a presidential candidate for the Cambio Democrático party, will be in Penonomé today, and then tour Parque Unión in Chitré Sunday before heading to Las Tablas Monday for that community's celebration.
Marco Ameglio, a potential presidential candidate for the Panameñista party, will be in Chiriquí over the weekend, his press team reported. He will attend the parade and visit the fair there.
Panameñista party Chairman Juan Carlos Varela, through his communications staff, said he will be traveling with his family. On Tuesday, he will attend the Carnaval in Las Tablas, and will also visit Penonomé the day of the parade of rafts. He will also pay visits to Los Santos and attend events in Panama City.
Ministra de Vivienda and candidate for the presidency of the Partido Revolucionario Democrático, Balbina Herrera, will meet today with 271 elected party delegates from the province of Colón, and on Sunday will participate in another meeting of delegates from the Ngöbe Buglé district. Her staff said she will also participate in Carnaval-related events in those two areas.
Her opponent, former President Ernesto Perez Balladares, will be in Penonomé today, Chitré on Sunday, and Monday and Tuesday in Las Tablas and Ocú respectively.
But not all political folk are party animals. Guillermo Endara, president of the Vanguardia Moral party, told reporters he will be at home resting during Carnaval.
