Guatemalan charged with smuggling cash

Guatemalan citizen Juan Fernando Montenegro was arrested by customs officials at the Tocumen airport on Wednesday after they discovered he was carrying a bag containing $175,000 in $100 bills.

"Montenegro became nervous while giving his papers to officials," a source from customs said.

The suspicious behavior prompted officials to search Montenegro's bags more carefully. They found several packages containing the cash.

It is not the first time that Montenegro has been charged, customs officials said, but did not provide details on the earlier case.
