Atwal has the lead at Movistar
Arjun Atwal shot a two under par 68 to take a one stroke lead going into the final day of the Movistar Championship at Club de Golf de Panama.
He will try to become the first person to hold the lead for more than a day. His total score is six under par, and he has very little company in red numbers. Only eight players are under par for the tournament.
In second place is Chris Smith, who also shot two under par on Saturday. He is a stroke back at five under.
Friday’s leader, Scott Dunlap saw his three stroke lead evaporate as he dropped three shots in his first five holes with a bogey at number 3 and a double bogey at number five. he played even par the rest of the way to finish up at four under par for the tournament.
The windy conditions have made the course, at just over 7,100 yards, play much tougher than most of the venues that host events on the Nationwide Tour. While winning scores are usually at least 20 under par, the scores at this tournament are more like a major event on the PGA Tour.
As a comparison, Tiger Woods is currently 18 under par at the PGA event this week. And six under par at that tournament, which is being played at one of the tougher courses in the United States, would put a player in a tie for eighth place.
The tournament wraps up tomorrow with the leaders expected to tee off just after noon. Tickets are $10 for the day and can be purchased at the event.
