Caballero stopped in 7th
Panamanian fighter loses featherweight title bid in Indonesia as defending champ is too much for him.
Roinet "El Mus" Caballero was TKO’d in the seventh round of a fight yesterday for the featherweight world title.
Cabllero lost to title holder Chris John of Indonesia. The fight was held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
John improved to 42-0-1 in his career. Caballero dropped to 22-8. Before yesterday, Caballero had been unbeaten in his last 14 fights.
John was never in danger of losing his Asociación Mundial de Boxeo (AMB) title as he dominated the fight with his Panamanian challenger.
The fight was stopped by Caballero’s manager at the beginning of the seventh round.
Caballero started strong, trading blows with John in the first round. But the second round belonged to the champ, who was able to defend the Panamanian’s attacks while landing blows of his own.
The third round is where John did the most damage, landing several blows to Caballero’s head and body.
The rest of the fight featured much of the same, as Caballero was never able to get close enough to the Indonesian to pose any serious threat.
The loss is the latest setback for Panama’s boxing community. The country’s only current champion is Celestino "Pelenchin" Caballero, who holds the AMB super-bantamweight title.
