Colorful and Tuneful Carnaval begins in Colón

With the raising of the flag and the selection of a carnival queen, festivities for the Colón Carnaval "Mascaras y Congos 2008" got underway yesterday. As in previous years, the celebrations will be held both in the city and rural communities, where crowds of Colonenses will go to enjoy and participate in the activities organized by various Carnaval committees.

Humberto Nacelle, president of the Junta de Carnaval, explained that despite not having enough funding, the they are willing and enthusiastic about infecting people with the spirit of the festivities. The Carnaval queen will be crowned next Friday, Feb. 2.
