Stolen merchandise recovered
A 40-foot container filled with stolen domestic appliances valued at around $47,000 was recovered by Customs officials yesterday, said Javier Arosemena, secretary of the Direccíon de Aduanas.
The container was loaded with 77 dehumidifiers, 26 refrigerators, 15 washing machines, 12 dryers, and 8 stoves.
The driver transporting the container from Colón to Panama City was stopped in Chilibre. His shipping documents did not match the number of the container or its contents. The documents also bore an expired Customs stamp.
After detaining the driver, officials confirmed that the merchandise had been stolen from the Casa Confort company on Jan.1 of this year.
In another operation yesterday at Tocumen Airport, Customs inspectors apprehended a Guatemalan man trying to enter the country with $110,000. He had not declared the money.
