Laboraties in Darién remain inoperative

The laboratories for animal and vegetable health in Darién province lack resources and personnel, and "it is necessary to address the problem without delay," producer Mauro Saldaña told reporters yesterday. Saldaña said that with the rise in fruit and meat exports, there is some urgency for the laboratories to work efficiently and permanently.

Authorities referred to the Metetí laboratory as an example: "It has been closed for a long time because it is understaffed." La Palma laboratory, also in Darién, is currently in operation but an employee who works there reported shortages of materials.
