Bridge seen to help congestion

The rush hour traffic that builds up at the entrance of the Corredor Sur might be relieved by the construction of an elevated bridge connecting Vía Israel to the future coastal belt on Avenida Balboa.

That is the hope of engineers with the Ministerio de Obras Públicas, who recently outlined the project's impact on traffic flow.

The coastal belt project consists of filling in 21 hectares of the bay along Avenida Balboa from the Seafood Market to Punta Paitilla.

Once finished in 2009, Avenida Balboa will be a one-way street running toward Avenida Central. Traffic moving in the six new lanes of the Coastal Belt will go in the other direction.
