Lee critical of report
Panamanian baseball player Carlos Lee criticized a recently-released report on steroid use, saying it includes too much speculation and not enough definitive allegations.
The report was issued this week by former senator George Mitchell, who investigated steroid use in baseball for several years. Lee was not named as having used performance-enhancing drugs, but he said the report damages the reputation of the players named in it. Six Latin American players were among the 300 current and former players accused in the report.
The most prominent player named in the report was New York Yankeers pitcher Roger Clemens. He was named along with teamate Andy Pettit. Miguel Tejada, a new teamate of Lee´s with the Houston Astros, was also mentioned.
Baseball officials said that they will follow the report’s recommendations and increase testing for steroids.
