Park officials to start recycling program
Users of Parque Omar will be asked to start making a little extra effort to help the environment.
The park is the site of a pilot project to promote recycling in Panama. There will be four booths throughout the 56-hectare complex where users can put their garbage in recycling bins.
The park receives an estimated 25,000 visitors a month, who generate a great deal of trash. The pilot program calls for the recycling of plastic bottles, cans and paper.
The program is being organized by Marisol Landau, president of the Fundación Acción Social (FAS) Panama and Jorge Conte, of the Grupo Parques Nacionales de Panama. It is sponsored by Cervecería Nacional.
FAS Panama staff will monitor the bins to keep them from overflowing.
