Report details year´s drug and weapon seizures

Police have seized about 17 tons of drugs and more than 200 firearms so far this year, according to a report issued yesterday by the department´s information office.

According to the report, police seized 15.7 tons of cocaine and 1.7 tons of marijuana, as well as some 22 kilograms of heroin from January to December. Also, police seized 10 tons of chemicals used to manufacture drugs. Among the weapons seized were 66 machine guns, including AK-47s and M-16s, 69 revolvers, 57 pistols, 21 shotguns and 11 rifles.

Police have launched 65 operations this year, including 18 aimed at suspected drug rings. Officers have confiscated $12 million worth of property in connection with these operations, including cars, cash and other items.
